We kicked off the school year to a wonderful start. I feel so blessed to have this class. However, the first week is always crazy and I did not have a chance to post pictures.
Thursday evening we were told school was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey. That night my husband and I packed up our cats and hurricane proofed the house. We left to Dallas and did not get to return home till the next Thursday.
We feel so lucky. Our house had no damage and did not flood. We got to see the city we love overcome so much. I am so proud to be a Houstonian/ Pearlander.
So now to the classroom reveal.
The past two years I had chosen to do red and black. I noticed my students were angrier and had more anxiety. I myself noticed I felt anxious and stressed. I did my theme after these beautiful red bookcases. Below are some of the pictures of the room. I loved how bold everything looked.

Even though I loved the boldness I wanted my class to have a different feel.
This year I thought about what mood did I want my class to have. I wanted my class to feel calm and serene. I looked at colors and thought what colors made me feel calm. I settled on teal and black.
This is the entrance to the classroom. The board with the animals is my greeting board. This is all the choices of how they would like to be greeted in the morning. Some are touch some are not.
Next to that board is my class information board. This is where the class schedule and split list will go. Any other important information for my class will go there as well.
This is the teacher desk area.
On top you can see the number line. Under that is my color posters. On the teal board is where I put my important teacher information such as morning duty schedule, maps, and birthdays.
Under that is my brag tag box, copies box, and sub tub box.
On the second shelf is my laminator and on the last shelf is my tub of students samples and testing documents.
This is my student supply area. First they have a drying rack for any projects with glue or art activities. Next we have paper. This is the paper we use during guided reading and math. Below that is there mailboxes. I put all graded work in their mailbox and send it home in their Tuesday folders. To the left in the red book case are crayons sorted by color, scissors, celebrations books, dry erase markers, and clipboards.
The clipboards are dry erase.
This is a table for the students to use. For meet the teacher I have the class book information on it. This table will be used for stations once we get into them. As I change my room to flexible seating the students can use this table as well.
This is where my students will get heir math stations. The top is lapboards (for flexible seating).
On the side will be the station chart. The white binders are their I'm through what can I do binders.
The backpack is the emergency backpack
This is where the math word wall and reading word wall will be. The math word wall with go in the middle as I introduce the words. The reading one goes on the bottom. I laminate the words and put velcro dots of the back. That way students can take the words to their spot as they are writing.
The top is my conscious discipline and project class posters.
The teal board is for writing. Below that is my safe place. Gliders will also be in the safe place.
This is more supplies and a expectation chart. This chart shows the students how to line up to leave the classroom. I used magentic tape to stick it the the metal bookshelf. On top is a blue bucket for lunch badges.
This is the front of the shelf. The envelope is for absence notes. It will actually go on the door but I need to get a magnet for it. The black container is full of yellow coupons. The blue trash can is our kindness bucket. When students are kind we put a puff ball in the bucket.
We will then move on to cards and eventually notes.
Below that is my indoor recess. The kids can choose blocks, legos, small legos, or bowling.
Below that is my turn in box. Not pictured is extra copies.
The third shelf is where they put their lunch kits.
This is the crayon wreath I made for my classroom. Sadly it broke this week so I will need to fix it.
This is the front view of teacher section.
This is outside the classroom door. The desk is where the safe keepers go.
This is my whole group area. This was taken before the room was done. Now the red on the big book stand has black tape and there is a reference wall on the top of the wall.
This is the classroom library. Note that there are no books in it yet. They will come soon look for a future blog post.
These are my student desks. I got the seat sacks at that dollar tree.
This is where I keep my math manipulatives. This way I can show them under the document camera. I also have a blue shelf for their word work and sight word station. Notice the red bookcases have been placed in a corner.
My mom helped me with my bookcase. She attached fabric to make it look more finished. The two benches on the side were designed and made by my mom and me. We then put in black cubbies to hold supplies for when the class goes to flexible seating.
This is my math focus wall. The posters show different ways we do math. We do this every day with the number of the day.
This is the computer area. We recovered the crate seats to go with the room.
This is where I have my rug and listening expectations. The cookie sheet is our well wisher board.
This is the completed calendar area. We put up ABC, number and shape charts. Please ignore the mess on my table.
This is the view from the back of the room.
This is the view from the front of the room.
This is the view from the desks.
These are pillows my mom and I made for the couch.
You can see the black tape here on the big book stand.
This is where we stuck the calendar. I got it free from scholastic reading club bonus points.
This is an addition to the math focus wall. On the left hand side I write the schedule and students more the schedule with a little pencil magnet I made.
This is our table expectations and CHAMP wall.
The white boxes are the students book boxes. The top row are my boxes. The bottom shelf is my treasure box. The blue storage box is full of tools and supplies.
This is my students work board. There will be clips of the students flying around like super heroes.
Videos will be coming soon.
